Job Description
Head of Machine Shop
As the Head of Machine Shop at Grounded, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing our machine shop operations, ensuring that our projects run smoothly and efficiently. You will lead a talented team, manage the workflow, and be responsible for maintaining equipment and quality standards. A typical day may involve scheduling team shifts, coordinating with other departments, troubleshooting equipment issues, and guiding your team through various machining tasks. Your leadership will be critical in driving our mission forward and transforming innovative ideas into reality.
Requirements
- Must be willing to relocate to Detroit, Michigan, if not already nearby
- High school diploma or GED is required
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership position
- At least 10 years of machine shop experience or a relevant degree combined with additional experience
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed
- Ability to lift up to 45lbs unassisted
Nice to Have
- Completion of a trade school program or a Bachelor’s degree
- Ability to read and create engineering drawings
- Experience with prototyping and rapid iteration processes
- Outstanding communication and team leadership skills
- Familiarity with a variety of equipment and manufacturing processes
- Experience managing complex organizational systems and teams
- Adaptability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities in a fast-paced, challenging work environment
